Huge fan of RuneScape or Albion Online but fancy something new to play? We recommend checking out Ancients Reborn then. It’s a brand new mobile MMORPG that, like its inspirations, harkens back to the golden age of the MMORPG genre.
What does that mean? Well, take a quick glance at the visuals and you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to the early 00s – in a good way. As a gamer of that particular vintage, I particularly appreciated the nostalgic style.
The gameplay matches it, too. While you can do the typical MMORPG stuff, like teaming up with friends, exploring the world, and completing quests to level up, you can also basically live the life of an NPC.
What does that mean? Well, much like in RuneScape you can go out skilling. That basically involves mining, woodcutting, fishing, or performing another repetitive activity to boost your skill level.
As you do so, you gather resources that you can then craft into useful items and equipment. Those that you don’t use, you can sell to other players for a profit. You can do so via the marketplace or your very own shop.
You then bank the cash and spend it on whatever you want. Thus describes the player-driven economy that Ancients Reborn thrives upon. It’s a true MMORPG in that you can play it your way.
Once you’re confident in your character and their abilities, you can team up with other players to take on the more challenging content. This involves dungeons, of course, and there are two varieties: instanced and open world. We bet you can figure out the difference between them.
Wrapping up the game’s featureset are mounts, which help you traverse the world faster, and pets, who will join you in your explorations. Animal lovers are well-catered to here, and it, quite frankly, wouldn’t be an MMORPG without them.
